The letters, faxes and e-mails cover various matters e.g. fax from Gold to Fred Hoyle in which he expresses sympathy with Hoyle over his recent accident, and goes on to state that he considers the whole discussion of the background radiation to be quite meaningless, and that the steady state universe theory is increasingly compatible with observation (771); him putting forward his deep hot biosphere idea in response to a request from the National Academy of Sciences for high priority challenges in environmental science that it could fund [768]; a piece he wrote for www.amazon.co.uk on the deep hot biosphere (766; 757).
