Title | Unpublished letter, regarding leather storm sails and tents from Jacob Lawrence to T [Thomas] Young |
Date | 4 October 1826 |
Description | Lawrence introduces his two inventions, a leather storm sail and a leather tent, which he proposes are an improvement on their canvas counterparts. He recounts shipwreck disasters caused by canvas sails, which he believes would have been avoided had his leather storm sails been used. He reports also that his leather tents are warmer and drier than canvas tents, envisioning their use by arctic discovery crews.
