Whilst the Royal Society declined to publish this paper in full, an abstract of the paper was published in volume 4 of Abstracts of the Papers Printed in the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London [later Proceedings of the Royal Society] as 'Second series of approximate deductions made from about 50,000 observations taken during the years 1836, 1837, and 1838, at the P. Louis Observatory, Mauritius, four times each day; namely, at 8 a.m., at noon, and at 4 and 8 p.m.'. |
