DescriptionHeygate has been led by his experience to estimate highly the medicinal properties of the iodide of potassium (which he prefers to the tincture of iodine) in various diseases, and thinks that when it is administered judiciously no deleterious effects are likely to arise from its use.

Whilst the Royal Society declined to publish this paper in full, an abstract of the paper was published in volume 4 of Abstracts of the Papers Printed in the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London [later Proceedings of the Royal Society] as 'On the nature and properties of iodide of potassium, and its general applicability to the cure of chronic diseases'.
