Title | Unpublished manuscript, 'Une langue mère de toutes les autres, et la même que celle des anciens bretons' ['A mother tongue of all others, the same as that of the ancient Bretons'] by J Le Brigant |
Creator | Brigant; J Le (fl 1783) |
Date | [1783] |
Description | Le Brigant's paper seeks to illustrate that all languages are descended from the language of Gomerites, or ancient Bretons. He does this by comparing phrases in Breton or Gomerite to the same phrases in various other languages to show the similarities between the languages. Languages sampled in Le Brigant's work include English, German, Welsh, Latin, French, Italian, Spanish, Basque, Greek, Hebrew, Aramaic, Syriac, Arabic, Carib, Algonquin, Tahitian Sanskrit, and Chinese. Le Brigant has attempted to translate some of his portions of his argument into English.
