DescriptionThis research began in 1895, and has been carried on intermittently in the intervals of other work. Preliminary reports on some of the results have been laid before the British Association at the Ipswich, Liverpool, Toronto, and Bristol meetings. In the present paper the authors give a full account, with illustrations, of the detailed evidence upon which their various conclusions are based.

Annotations in ink throughout. Includes eight pages of figures of oysters.

Whilst the Royal Society declined to publish this paper in full, an abstract of the paper was published in volume 64 of the Proceedings of the Royal Society as 'Observations upon the normal and pathological histology and bacteriology of the oyster'.
