| Description | Chisholm describes a case of a teenage girl who experienced unusual symptoms, initially attributed to a liver problem such as hepatitis in combination with hysteria. Chisholm treated her with mecury and a recommendation to recuperate in the countryside, which she did before moving back to her father's house which was high on a hill and exposed to the elements. Chisholm posits that this change in temperature and weather may have caused her to relapse. The patient continued to have these fits of catalepsy and amentia whenever the weather turned suddenly cold, and the only methods found to relieve her were courses of mercury and pressure placed on her carotids.
