TitleLetter from Sir Joseph Banks, Soho Square to Charles Blagden
Date[19] June 1819
DescriptionGives directions for payment of account with the Board of Longitude. Knows nothing of the new metal cadmium and would be happy to receive it. The Royal Society broke up yesterday, will visit Royal Observatory on Friday next. Kater sets out with his pendulum on Wednesday for Shetland and then on to Norway. The discovery ships sailed on 5 May and made observations in Shetland which differ "from the blundering result obtained by Olinthus Gregory". Cuvier has not visited the Royal Society Club or the last meeting. Impatient to hear of Ritchie's departure, the Dey has already begun to prepare for his journey. Lysons has returned, delighted with the French. Discusses a spell of fine weather. Rumours of a mutiny on board the discovert ships is wholly unfounded. Sir George Staunton will visit him next week.
