TitleLetter from Sir Joseph Banks, Soho Square to Charles Blagden
Date7 December 1819
DescriptionDiscusses Countess Rumford's project of having a Sèvres vase made illustrating episodes in Banks' career. "There is nothing in my power which I will not readily undertake in obedience to the countess, provided she will abstain from fulfilling her kind intention ... I do not feel as if vanity was a prominent vice in my character but were I to emply an artist to make a drawing of my Room next the library, with my Fauteuil including my old battered carcass, I should at once stand convicted of a crime of which I feel innocent". Outlines inaccuracies of episodes to be depicted on reverse of vase. Is grateful for the sentiment of Countess Rumford towards him. Gives recipe for semen colchic as stated by Hume. Discusses weather. Asks if Blagden has heard of a new peach called La Belle Beau. Discusses Parliament and reformers.
