Explains that he meant that British Astronomers would be held by foreign nations to be guilty of a breach of faith if they let a portion of the important international undertaking lapse, creating a gap in the work [as it would if the Perth Observatory ceased work on the International Astrographic Chart, as they have been instructed to by the Australian Government]. Begs leave to withdraw the phrase 'breach of faith'. Hopes that the Western Australian Government will see the international character of the work. |
