Title | Memorandum on the publication and dissemination of scientific news, by Gilbert [Charles] Bourne; Twyning Manor, Tewkesbury |
Date | 29 May 1925 |
Description | Discusses the publication of scientific memoirs and the dissemination of scientific news among research workers and the general public. Considers questions on this subject under three headings: 1. The publication of original memoirs or other matter tending to the advancement of natural knowledge, such as reports, abstracts, etc. 2. The suggestion of an Imperial Scientific Publicity Service 3. An Imperial Scientific Intelligence Service.
Discusses the objects of such organisations, and what they would require to run. Sketches an outline of the required organisation, and the problems, of such a scheme.
Concludes that a scheme for scientific memoirs, published by a range of Societies, would be possible. However, on the whole thinks that a partial scheme that did not bring together all the channels of scientific publication into complete cooperation would have little chance of success.
On the reverse of the last page there are a series of notes handwritten in pencil, including some in shorthand. |
