Description | Moir finds that the grant sum of £10 has been insufficient for his microscopical examination of flint surfaces. He has had taken 30 or 40 photographs of each type of fracture surface, the images made by Baker of Holborn at 15 shillings each. For a large order they will charge 12 shillings and sixpence per photograph. His original request to the Government Grant Committee was for £50 and it will be impossible to complete the work for less. At the suggestion of Dr. Smith Woodward he sends three photographs [not present] of 100 magnification showing the action of human blows, pressure, and thermal action on flints. He explains the differences and how he intends to establish the difference between man-made and natural action. He intends to examine photographs of disputed flints from the field, comparing them to photographs of experimentally fractured flints. He hopes for an additional £40 and has captioned each photograph on the back. |
