TitleExtracts from a letter to Sir Clements R Markham from Bacon Richthofen
Date29 March 1903
DescriptionThe letter outlines congratulations for the voyage of the 'Discovery' and particularly for Captain Scott's peformance. The selection of Captain Scott was very good. Richtofen notes how impressed he was by Markham's energy. With the exception of one single accident which may occur anywhere in the ice, everybody is well. This is a testimony to their physical strength.

We shall soon have a vast knowledge of typical chains of volcanoes. Congratulations are also expressed for the wise decision to send out the 'Morning' boat for the main expedition.
