TitleLetter from Clements R Markham, 21 Eccleston Square, to Mr Larmor
Date28 April 1903
DescriptionWhen the 'Morning' started on her return there were 5 miles of ice separating the 'Discovery'. Sir William Huggins has been informed. A telegram has been enclosed about the wages of a man who has been discharged. It is certain that Captain Scott is wintering a second time because there is 5 miles of ice between the 'Discovery' and open water.

If relief is not sent, there will be a terrible catastrophe. If the government consents to the grant, there is no hurry. But it is quite conceivable that there may be a refusal as there was with the relief ship last year.

The £3300 that has been left ought to be considered sacred, for payments of wages and allotments until April 1904 when it will be exhausted.
£500 has already been sent to Colbeck, but more will be wanted almost immediately.
