TitleLetter from William Huggins, President of the Royal Society, to the Rt. Hon A J [Arthur James] Balfour, First Lord of the Treasury
Date28 May 1903
DescriptionThe letter refers to the examination of the correspondence between the Royal Society and H.M. Government with respect to the Antarctic Expedition. The Council has been unable to find any indication that the Royal Society has done otherwise than place before H.M. Government all the information in its possession.
The Royal Society has lost confidence in H.M. Government. The Council believe that the opinion expressed has been based on a misunderstanding, which they are confident could be cleared up. A private interview is requested to discuss such misunderstandings.
