TitleCopy letter from William Huggins, President of the Royal Society, to Dr [Karl] Pearson
Date23 April 1902
DescriptionReplies to the questions posed by Dr [Karl] Pearson in his letter [CD/25/14]:
(1) Thinks that the Secretaries should not disregard a Fellow's formal request under such circumstances.
(2) Discusses why the motion was withdrawn by the proposer. On the question of whether 'the criticism of an unpublished paper should not be brought before the [Royal] Society without the consent of the person criticized', thinks that there is a precedent for this (John Herschel did it), but agrees with Pearson's general point that these questions are not personal so much as important to the welfare of the Society.
