TitleCopy Memorandum on the Perth Observatory, sent from Walter [Hartwell] James, Premier of Western Australia, to His Excellency the Administrator
Date11 February 1903
DescriptionNotes that there was a misapprehension about the costs of the work on the [International] Astrographic Chart of the heavens at Perth Observatory, but that the Government Astronomer was not to blame. Expresses the opinion that it is not fair to ask such a small state to bear the whole cost of this work, and that the work would probably not have been undertaken if the Government had been fully aware of the costs. Notes that the present staff will be kept until 10 June, and then only the staff necessary to carry out the work. Asks if the interested parties are willing to contribute £400 to enable the work to be completed.
