TitleLetter from James [George] Frazer, to William Bate Hardy, Secretary of the Royal Society
Date1 July 1924
DescriptionExpresses the opinion that the three volumes of [John] Roscoe's Report on the Mackie Expedition are 'a very fine piece of anthropological research'. Notes that Roscoe was prevented by political circumstances from visiting the Gallas on Lake Rudolph. Thinks that examining that tribe is vital to complete the work of the expedition, to help relations in the region and to likely throw light on the origin and early history of Egyptian civilisation. Thinks that Roscoe should be given the means to go back and investigate the tribes near Lake Rudolph and the southern border of Abyssinia. Hopes that Sir Peter Mackie will continue to fund this work, or that the Royal Society will make a grant. Asks for this letter to be shown to the Royal Society and to Mackie.
