TitleLetter from W. Alison Phillips, Oakley Street, Chelsea, S.W.3., London, to the Royal Society
Date4 August 1919
DescriptionDiscusses the terms of the [Encyclopaedia Britannica Educational Foundation] trust, which cannot be settled until the endowment has been obtained, but which must satisfy the Royal Society. Explains that the co-operation of the Royal Society [and the British Academy] is to assure the public and donors that the scheme is sound, and that the Society would be free to withdraw at any moment if they were not satisfied by the terms. Explains that hopefully the trustees will have £500,000 to take over the copyright of the Encyclopaedia and to prepare new volumes. Encloses the syllabus [CD/55/12] of some suggested courses for systemised reading courses.
