TitleLetter from Lord Rayleigh, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the National Physical Laboratory, to Sir Archibald Geikie, President of the Royal Society
Date24 February 1913
DescriptionBrings up a matter in the National Physical Laboratory's Annual Report, relating to the financial responsibility of the Royal Society. Discusses the expenses related to running the National Physical Laboratory, where they come from (mainly Government sources), and the defecit which is the Royal Society's responsibility. Asks two things:
I. That the Royal Society ought not to be responsible for the loss on the trading part of the Laboratory.
II. That a larger [monetary] capital is required for working purposes.
Asks that these questions are discussed at the Royal Society's Council meeting, and hopes that they can take some preliminary action.
