TitleDraft letter from the Council of the Royal Society, to the Under Secretary of State, India Office
Date[1905]
DescriptionExplains that the Royal Society have had a letter from Professor [George Howard] Darwin, stating that a new project to revise district maps in India may lead to part of the funds of the general Indian Trigonometrical and Geodetic Survey being diverted. Are strongly against this happening, and give reasoning why it would be particularly bad at the present time. Hopes that the Government of India will not institute fundamental changes affecting the scientific work of the Trigonometrical Survey until they have considered expert advice.
