TitleMemorandum on the present position of the alloys of iron research
Date[March 1924]
DescriptionDiscusses the research so far [supervised by the Alloys of Iron Research Committee], to study the consitution and properties of iron alloys free from carbon. Discusses the early results, which have indicated that the knowledge of carbon-free alloys is likely to illuminate the knowledge of the constitution of commercial iron.

Explains the preliminary investigations taken, including preparing metals free of impurities using electrolysis, and the problems of refractories. Explains the process, and the progress they have made. Notes that the cost in both time and money might appear large (as they are taking great care to ensure the highest purity of the metals and accuracy in melting methods), but the results justify the expenditure .
