TitleCopy letter from the Secretaries of the Royal Society, to the Permanent Administrative Secretary, H.M. Treasury
Date30 November 1905
DescriptionOn excess expenditure at Eskdalemuir Observatory of £1,200 beyond estimates, the Society had no reason to expect the estimates would be exceeded. Provides details on the stabling, observation tower and acetylene plant. The building of the observatory has rested entirely with the Office of Works. The Royal Society can see no precedent for vesting the observatory with the Society: the same course should be used as applied at Kew, that is the Society being responsible for the internal fittings, and the Office of Works for the fabric of the building.
