TitleDraft letter from the Secretary of the Royal Society, to [George Herbert Murray?] H.M Treasury
Date19 November 1906
DescriptionDrawing attention to annual expenditure at Eskdalemuir Observatory first raised by a resolution on 21 March 1901. The history of the removal of the observatory from Kew is given with a summary of necessary works and memoranda. Estimates of annual sums have been deemed necessary expenditure, with minor alterations. Because of the need to continue work at Kew for the time being, including examining and testing magnetic instruments, it is not feasible to reduce staff at Kew to any reasonable extent. New buildings at Eskdalemuir will be ready for occupation early next summer and it is hoped that the cuurrent application for working funds will be considered favourably.
