TitleLetter from Adam Sedgwick, Sydney John Hickson and Gilbert Charles Bourne, to Sir Archibald Geikie and Council of the Royal Society
Date14 June 1909
DescriptionFor more than fifty years. leading men of science have considered that the administration of the Natural History Departments of the British Museum has been defective and many attempts have been made to improve it. These are outlined in the accompanying letter and appendix. The appointment of a commission to report upon the Museum's administration is now urgent. They have not been convinced that the British Government will take forward an inquiry. This is a case in which the Royal Society is greatly involved and they ask that the President approach the Prime Minister to urge the case for an inquiry, giving reasons.
