TitleCopy letter from William Bate Hardy, Burlington House, London, to Sir Peter Jeffrey Mackie
Date16 June 1921
DescriptionThanking Mackie for his kind letter and generous offer an he has discussed details with Barcroft. Hardy's information was defective and other sums apart from the Royal Society's have been promised to the expedition. The sum of £1,000 was the balance remaining after these had been accounted for. Hardy is penitent over his mistake and Mackie must consider if £1,350 is too much. The Chairman of the Peruvian Corporation has promised every facility, but this must be confirmed by his Board. Hardy thanks Mackie for the leaflets and strongly agrees with him on the matter of ballots. In a postscript, Hardy notes a meeting of Council in which it was provisionally agreed to accept responsibility for the Mackie High Altitude Exedition to Peru, on condition that Mackie was solely responsible for the expedition finances.
