TitleLetter from [William Chambers Lefroy?], Charity Commission, to James R. Upton, Apothocaries' Hall, Blackfriars
Date14 July 1898
DescriptionFollowing earlier activity, he is directed by the Charity Commissioners to state to the Society of Apothocaries that they are ready to proceed with a draft scheme for the regulation of the Chelsea Physic Garden as a charity. He notes why proceedings had been suspended, pending inquiry, and the Apothocaries' desire to be unburdened from maintaining the Garden. The Commisisoners have received an offer from the London Parochial Charities representing the Polytechnic Institutes who are interested in accepting Trusteeship. The Treasury is willing to render the Garden fully available for the Royal School of Science at South Kensington and to make an annual contribution.
