TitleCopy letter from Archibald Geikie, the Royal Society, Burlington House, London, to [John William Srutt, 3rd Baron Rayleigh]
Date18 June 1907
DescriptionAsking Rayleigh to read an accompanying letter from the Foreign Office and Geikie's proposed reply. He believes that the conduct of the Foreign Office and Colonial Office in summoning an International Conference on Sleeping Sickness, without consulting the Royal Society, 'is simply disgraceful'. He thinks they should not accept the appointment of Dr. Rose Bradford without a dignified expression of surprise. 'We may expect a lively time when Lankester appears at the Council and expresses his opinion on the subject'. If the President agrees to Rose Bradford, Geikie will communicate with him that afternoon, since the conference meets at 3.00pm tomorrow.
