Title | Manuscript, regarding glass drops by Signor [Geminiano] Montanari |
Date | [1671] |
Description | Translation from Italian of a paper by Montanari in which he describes the design and manufcature of a new type of glass drops called Prince Rupert drops.
This paper was delivered by Henry Oldenburg to [Thomas?] Henshaw in February 1671 for translation. This was done by the end of March. After the reading of the paper, fifty copies of it were ordered to be printed by Mr Martyn, the society’s printer, so it could be distributed amongst the members of the Society.
On 20 April 1671 Oldenburg recieved the second part of the paper and stopped the printing of the first part as a result. As the Royal Society did not at this time have a normal publication series the report was recorded in the Register Book and first published by Christopher Merret as an appendix to his translation of Neri’s 'Art of Glass'.'
