DescriptionHauksbee describes an experiment attempting to produce light through a metallic body under a vacuum and attrition. He writes: 'It may be remembred, what success I had in producing Light through Bodies, such as Sealing Wax, Pitch, and common Sulphur; which gave me some probability, that under the same Circumstances I might like wife make some such Discovery thro' a Metallick Body.'
