Description | Diagrams in a description of the book Nova Febris idea ceu Conjecturae Physicae circa Febris Naturam (Geneva, 1700) by Jacobus Gavet, presented to the Royal Society on 17 March 1701. Diagram shows three rectangles of different widths and lengths, and shows which has the greatest area, to demonstrate that the heart 'contains the greateft quantity of blood when it is abbreviated, since it does not then approach nearer to a square, but a spherical figure, which by the content of all geometers is the moft capacious'.
