At back of volume; printed letter of 11 May 1898 from Richard Strachey, Chairman of the Meteorological Council to the President of the Royal Society, reluctantly concluding that 'in order to secure the satisfactory working of the Meteorological Office it will be necessary to make provision for establishing a system of superannuation for the clerical staff; and that this can only be effected by means of some increase to the present annual grant made by Parliament, unless a reduction be made in the expenditure on the objects which constitute the regular work of the office, in respect to which the Parliamentary grant was originally fixed. '
Includes proposals for the establishment of a system of superannuation for the Meteorological Office, with a table to show the operation of proposed scheme of superannuation, and abstract of expenditure of the Meteorological grant for each of the years of 1882, 1887, 1892 and 1897, and a List of staff of Meteorological Office 1897.
