Minute of the Council meeting of 6 May appointing the Committee was read

' Ordered that Mr Dollond be requested to enquire of Messrs Pellat and Green the probable expence of erecting a furnace capable of producing a very high temperature for Experiments upon the manufacture of different kinds of Glass; and that he be also requested to send to Mr Faraday, for analysis, sucy specimens of Glass as he considers most perfect.'
