DateJune 1826
DescriptionPresent at the meeting: the President in the chair; Captain Beaufort; Mr Bevan; Mr Brande; Captain Kater; Mr Herschel

Minutes of last meeting read

' Mr Bevan was requested to ascertain accurately the difference of level between the floor of the Apartment in which the Meteorological Instruments are intended to be kept, and such points in Waterloo Bridge as on inspection he shall judge sufficiantly definite and permanent for scientific purposes.

Mr Bevan retired aand on his return stated, reported, that having inspectd Waterloo Bridge, he judged the Base of one of the Pillars in the North side of the Bridge to be the most proper point for a level-mark.

It was resolved to recommend to the Board of Longitude to procure a level to be carried from the mean surface of the Sea at Holyhaven or other convenient Station to the float index on the Terrace at Greenwich, to the Base of one of the principal pillars in Waterloo Bridge and to such other marked points in the course of the Thames as may be judged desirable for future exact scientific references.
