Matters discussed
1. Membership and Terms of Reference
The Chairman reported that this sub-committee had ben set up with the following terms of reference: to make recommendtions to the Tercentenary Celebrations Committee regarding the issue of publications on the occasion of the Tercentenary. The membership of the sub-committee is as follows:
Professor W V D Hodge (Chairman)
Professor E N da C Andrade
Sir Gavin de Beer
Sir Harold Hartley
Sir Rudolph Peters

2. Possible Publications for the Tercentenary
The Chairman reported that it was hoped that at least 3 volumes of the 'Newton Correspondence' would be published by July 1960. The question of other publications for the Tercentenary Celebrations was considered and after discussion it was decided that :
(a) In view of the expense involved, the Committee was not in favour of recommending a new edition of 'The Charter Book Signatures'.

(b) 'The Record of the Royal Society' was considered a very good project from every point of view, and as it was thought that this publication would have good sales possibilities the Commitee was strongly in favour of recommending that a new edition be published for the Tercentenary and that this edition should be carefuly edited to ensure that all errors in the previous edition are corrected. It was thought that the new edition should include far more detailed information including the names of Fellows prior to the granting of the Charter. The Committee realized that there was not a lot of time for this edition to be completed before the Tercentenary and that a great deal might depend on the time required by the printers, but if the Tercentenary Celebrations Committee approved this suggestion the Committee agreed that every effort should be made to enable this edition to be published for the Tercentenary Celebrations. The Committee agreed that the Chairman, together with the Assistant Secretary, should produce draft proposals on staff requirements for this project.

(c) The Committee strongly recommended that a Tercentenary Celebrations Report shuld be produced, but the form this should take must depend entirely on the programme of the celebrations and should be further discussed at a future meeting. It was suggested that the scientific material might conveniently appear in 'Proceedings Series A and B of the Royal Society' and not in the Tercentenary Celebrations Report which the Committee were in favour of keeping as small as possible.

(d) The question of having some kind of small brochure for presentation to delegates and also a printed programme of the celebrations was considered and after discussion it was decided that this again would depend on the general programme of the celebrations.

3. Date of next meeting
It was agreed that the next meeting sjpi;d be held at 11.30 am on Thursday 27 March 1958. '
