Matters discussed;
1. Formation of the Committee - Council set up the Taxonomy Committee in June 1960 and its terms of reference were 'To consider the whole question of the need for taxonomists and provision of taxonomic training. ' The membership of the Committee had been constituted as follows; Mr E J H Cornere (Chairman), the Treasurer, the Biological Secretary, Dr H R Fletcher, Professor H Godwin, Professor W O James, DR T C S Morrison-Scott, Professor C F A Pantin, Professor O W Richards and Dr G Taylor.

4. Consideration of information received - digest by Chairman of information from Questionnaires A and B, and discussion leading to basis of a draft report and recommendations to the Council of the Royal Society
4.1 Needs of UK
4.2 Underdeveloped countries and expeditions - recommendtions to include provision for
a. Research training grants specifically allocated to taxonomists who are young scientists from underdeveloped countries to train int eh UK
b. Reserch funds to be specifically applicable to subsidising taxonomic work in relation to expeditions organized from this country
c. Some increase n permanent taxonomic posts in the chief natinal museums and herbaris to meet the demand for identification of expedition material

A statment from the UNESCO Visiting Committee for Tropical Herbaria to use funds to send experts to herbaria in the tropics and to assist and encourage local people in charge of herbaria was reported by Dr Taylor.

5. Amateurs and retired professionals - felt help might be needed, especially with publictions

6. Publications - increased funds shuld be made available to subsidize the British taxonomic journals, including those at present maintained from Government funds and those which are pubished by private organizations such a the Linnaean Society

7. Education

8. Funds - discussed which body shoud be primarily responsibe for reserch and research training in taxonomy, and how any further funds which might be obtrained should be administered.
