TitleLetter from M Foster, Chairman of the International Association of Academies, at the Royal Society, Burlington House, London W to the International Association of Academies
Date2 August 1902
DescriptionStates the Royal Society has been consulted by the Government as to the desirability of Great Britain taking part in an International Conference on Earthquakes which was proposed at an International Seismological Conference held at Strasburg, in April 1901, and towards the establilshment of which initial steps have been taken by the German Govenment.

The Royal Society feels this falls within the province of the Association of Academies, and have asked Foster, as their delegate on the International Council and also Chairman, to ascertain the International Council's views to help the Royal Society in deciding what advice to give to the BHritish Government.

Encloses a copy of the resolution passed at the International Seismological Conference, and a copy of draft Statutes suggested for the proposed Association.

Reminds them of international work being done on seismological observations since 1897 at 36 stations in various parts of the world.

Although timing is inconvenient, requests answers by 1 October deadline.

Regrets that something so clearly within the province of the work for which the Association of Academies was established, was not formally brought before the Association at an early date.
