TitleLetter from S R Christophers, Blantyre, Africa, to the Malaria Committee of the Royal Society
Date15 May 1899
DescriptionDiscusses the conditions of his work in Blantyre. Notes that the public hospital has proved of little use as the Europreans treat themselves, so cases of malaria that come to the hospital have already been dosed with quinine; has had great help from the Blantyre Mission Hospital in securing blood films from native cases; notes that the lack of hospital accommodation makes it impossible to follow the course of the fever; is devoting current work to the histology of mosquitoes and their parasites, comparisons with tsetse fly, observations of the parasite and of birds. Does not think leave should be extended as research could continue 'where conditions are more favourable'. p24-27.
