Title | Copy, letter from E Ray Lankester to Sir Michael Foster |
Date | 16 September 1903 |
Description | Wants to place on record the conclusion he has come to regarding sleeping sickness. Suggests that the animal carrier of trypanosoma gambiense must have accompanied the tsetse fly into Uganda, and that suppression of this animal carrier will restrict the disease. Has conferred with Sir H Johnston who had had a caravan path cut through the Semiliki forest to the Congo stations and fears he is responsible for the arrival of sleeping sickness. Notes that the animals that always accompany the caravans are goats, dogs, and fowl -- urges that instructions be sent to all emissaries in Uganda to test these animals for trypanosoma. p57. |
