DescriptionCommittee appointed by Council of 7 June 1877; ' That the Council accept the responsitility of nominating a Meteorological Council, consisting of five members including the Chairman, besides the Hydrographer, who, it is understood, will be an ex officio member. They also consent to receive a report annually from the Meteorological Council and to transmit it to the Treasury with any remarks that to them may appear desirable. The Council understand that, for the remainder of the present finanacial year, a sum of £1000 will be granted for any or all of the following objects; increase of land stations, increase of telegraphy, and special meteorological researches.

Resolved that the gentlemen named, as follows, be appointed a Committee to suggest the names of a Chairman and four other members of the Meteorological Council for nomination to the Treasury, viz. the President and Officers, Sir G Airy, General Boileau, Mr Broun, Professor Clifton, Professor Carey Foster, Mr Hind, Reverend R Main, Admiral Richards, Lord Rosse.'
