TitleMinutes of a meeting of the Davy Medal Committee
Date29 April 1869
DescriptionPresent at the meeting: Leitenant General Sabine, President in the chair; Sir Henry Holland; Dr Miller; Dr Sharpey; Professor Stokes

' Read extract from the will of Sir H Davy, and that of Dr John Davy: also the opinion of Mr Archibald Smith to whom certain questions had been referred.
Resolved - That the Master of the Mint be requested to direct that the plate (excepting the centrepiece) be melted down and assayed at the Royal Mint, and sold on behalf of the Royal Society.

Considering that from a rough estimate it would appear that the sum likely to be obtained by the sale of the plate would not much exceed £600; and as the Medal is directed by the Testators to be conferred annually; it appears advisable to apply the annual interest of the fund in the shape of a gold medal bearing the effigy of Sir H Davy with a suitable inscription.

Rresolved - That Dr Sharpey be requested to ascertain whether any and what material exist for the preparation of a Portrait Medal of Sir H Davy, and what would be the expense of a pair of dies suited to the occasion.

Resolved - That the arrangements for the adjudication of the medal be similar to those adopted by the Society in other cases, and that it be understood that though it will be awarded for some discovery of recent date, the Council be recommended not to limit themselves to any definite period. '
