Matters discussed; 1. Read and signed minutes of las tmeeting
2. Letter read from British Association referring to minute 2 of the previous meeting stating that their General committee 'Did not make up a single resolution embodying the recommendations of the various Sections on the subject of an International Service of Biological Abstracts. They passed the resolutions as they stood to the Council for consideration. '
3. Letter from Professor McClung taken as read, having been circulated . ( reference in Minute 4 in previous mereting)
4. Reported by chairman that the Physiiological Society, the Biochemical Society, the Linnean Society, the Entomological Society, the Zoological Society, the Zoological Record Association, the imperial Bureau of Entomology, the Imperial Bureau of Mycology had greed to appoint representatives to give evidence before the Committee. Also reported that in response to his invitation, the Society for Experimental Biology and the British Mycological Society had agreed to appoint representatives.
5. Resolution of a meeting of British zoologists forwarded for information of the Committee by Mr Balfour Brown and the Secretary of the British Association received. [See CMB/27/2/1] Extracts from a letter from Profesor McClung regarding a cable sent to America criticising these resolutions were read to the committee. [No copy of the cable or record of the criticisms in these minutes]
6. 'Sir William Hardy attended to give evidence with regard to the American scheme for Biological Abstracts, but having ascertained tht the scheme which he had discussed in AMerica last Autumn differed from that now before the Committee, he felt unable to express any views regarding it. '
7. The following attended to give their views to the Committee with regard to the scheme; Professor J Ashworth; Dr Guy Marshall and Dr Neave representing the Imperial Bureau of Entomology; Professor E B Poulton and Dr A D Imms representing the Entomological Society; and Mr E J Butler, representing the Imperial Bureau of Mycology. |
