1. Mr H G Maurice and Dr E S Russell were welcomed by the Cahirman a new members of the Committee. Apologies for absence received from Vice-Admiral Sir Percy Douglas and Professor A V Hill

2. Confimed the circulated minutes of the meeting on 7 September

3. Letters read from Professor H B Bigelow, director of the Woods Hole Oceanogrphic Institution, and Mr C Iselin, President of the Bermuda Biological Station, accepting the proposals put forward in the Treasury letter of 23 December 1936 fgor a joint scheme of reserch on Atlantic drift problems.

4. Sir Henry Lyons, who had prepared a memorandum for the guidance of the Committee, explained the procedure which the Committee would be required to follow as regards accounts and other matters. [More important points listed in minutes]

5. Discussed the arrangements for the appointment of the Hydrologist and the Director's Assistant. It was decided that ' the appointments should be advertised in "The Times", "The Scotsman", and "Nature". The salary of the Hydrologist is to be given as £400-450 according to qualifications and that of the Assistant to the Director as £300. Applications are to be sent in on or before 20 May 1937. It was agreed that two sub-committees should be formed to examine the applications and that the most promising candidates should be asked to attend a meeting in June for interview by the Committee. The sub-committee for the hydrological post will consist of Dr Carruthers, Dr Harvey, and Dr Tait and that for the post of Assistant to the Director, of the Chairman, Dr Russell and Professor Garstang.

6. It was agreed that a naval architect should be appointed to advise the Committee on the purchase of a suitable boat. A ship sub-committee, with Vice Admiral Sir Percy Douglas, Dr Harvey, Dr Carruthers and the Secretary as members, was constituted and it was decided that this sub-committee should be empowered to employ a naval architect and begin the necessary enquiries.

7. The Secretary was authorised to pass small accounts for payment by the Society in anticipation of the approval of the Committee.
