DescriptionExtracts from despatches during Hamerton's first two weeks upon arrival in Zomba to study sleeping sickness. Describes meetings with Sir William Manning and the Governor of Zamba. Describes efforts to find a suitable site for a permanent laboratory. By 14th of September, indicates that he has found a site and that workmen have already begun clearing -- 'your house will be built first, and will probably be ready for Lady Bruce and you to enter immediately you arrive here'. Describes the location of the site, its proximity to other regions and its advantages for research in detail. p41-3.
