TitleSeventh meeting of the Sub-Committee on Mediterranean Fever
Date19 April 1907
DescriptionLists those present -- Col Bruce as Chairman, Fleet-Surgeon Bassett-Smith, Dr J Eyre, Sir Archibald Geikie, and Dr C J Martin, with Dr Zammit in attendance. Lists committee business -- 1. The signing of the last meeting's minutes. 2. Consideration of the Chairman's review of the investigation proceedings to date [dates of arrival and departure in Malta, the recent reports on epidemiology of the disease and its transmission, the Commission's success in identifying the source of infection as the 20,000 infected goats]. 3. Resolution that the Committee's investigation 'may be considered to have been brought to a successful conclusion,' as the elimination of the infected goats is now a matter for administrative authorities. 4. Recommendations to be made to the relevant authorities, including slaughter of infected animals, prohibition of milk in the HM ships and barracks, enforcing of efficient milk boiling, the establishment of a controlled dairy, other measures. Suggests that the Imperial Government might be asked to help with expenses, considering the 'amount of loss to the State' in the form of 700 sick soldiers and sailors each year under present conditions. p42-45.
