Resolved; 1. Professor S Chapman be appointed acting Chairman of the committee for this meeting 2. Dr E C Bullard be nominated the Technical Secretary of the committee 3. Definition of the term 'geophysics' to include geodesy, seismology, terrestrial magnetism and electricity, vulcanology and hydrology. 4. Professor S Chapman, Dr A O Rankine, Brigadier B F J Schonland and Dr E C Bullard to be asked to prepare statements on the question of acquisition for geophysical purposes of surplus equipment and machine tools and to the application of Radar to geodesy when the war is over, for the use of the committee. 5. Dr A O Rankine and Dr E B Bailey undertook to collaborate in the preparation of a memorandum on the matter of the a need for the establishment of a department of geophysics at the N.P.L. and of a geophysical unit of the Geological Survey for the use of the committee. 6. Regarding the magnetic survey, Sir John Edgell reported on the position as regards the magnetic survey. Professor S Chapman undertook to make enquiries on the possibility of magnetic surveying by air 7. Recommended that the project of gravity at sea begun before the war be resumed at the approporiate time. 8. A discussion of the question of gravity on land be deferred until the next meeting. 9. With regard to the position of the international seismological summary, a) the continuance of the international summary be regarded as a matter of importance, and that b) the memorandum by Dr H Jeffreys be circulaed to the committee before the next meeting. 10. Dr H Jeffreys to prepare a statement on seismological stations in the colonies 11. Dr E C Bullard undertook to prepare for circulation a statement on the projected geophysical research at Cambridge. 12. Sir Edward Appleton and Professor P M S Blackett be invited to express their views on the question of ionospheric and cosmic ray recording for the use of the committee. 13.
