7. Confirmed minutes of meeting held on 10 December 1947

8. Matters arising from minutes;
8a Appointment of an Assistant - Mr RMC Arnot of ICI Ltd (Plastics Division) appointed
8b Dr J E Holmstrom - welcomed as a member of the Committee and as editor in chief of Section 3
8c Scientific Liaison Officers - Mr BRearley to act for Dr Malloch as an observer from the Canadian Scientific Liaison Office, Mr Masson to replace Mr Boden from the South African Scientific Liaison Office. Agreed to invite Professor Earl V evans as observer for the Scientific Office of the USA Embassy.
8d Invitation to Overseas Countries - additional invitations sent to Ceylon, Eire, the Colonial Office and Newfoundland. Acceptancies received from Australia, Canada, Ceylon, Eire, India, Newfoundland, New Zealand, Pakiston, South Africa, The Caribbean Commission, The South Pacific Commission, USA, UNESCO. Newfoundland will not be sending a representative to the Conference
8e Additional invitations to British Organisations to attend but not as delegates - Agricultural Reserch Council, British Ecological society, Chemical Council, Chemical Society, Geological Society, Institute of Fuel, Institute of Metals, Institute of Physics, Institution of Civil Engineers, Institution of Electrical Engineers, Institution of Mechanical Engineeers, Iron and Steel Institute, Linnean Society, London Mathematical Society, Medical Research Council, Physical Society, Physiological Society, Royal Aeronautical Society, Royal Anthropological Institute, Royal Astronomical Society, Royal Entomological Society, Royal Geographical Society, Royal Meteorological Society, Society for Experimental Biology, Society of Chemical Industry, Stationery Office, Zoological Society of London

9. Correspondence
9a Letter of 20 January sent inviting co-operation by the Secretaries to all members of Sectional Committees. Resolved ' that the four editors in chief should attend a meeting of the Zoology and Botany Sectional Committees on 9 Februry at 2.30 pm and that invitations should be sent to the Chairmen of the Mathemtics, Physiology and Medical Sciences Sectional Committees to attend or send representatives.'
9b Reported that ' a letter SIC/8 (48) received from Dr Joseph Needham regarding forthcoming UNESCO conferences on allied subjects. Also reported that Professor BErnal, Dr King and Dr Lampitt had been invited to attend the UNESCO conference on abstracting in April and would represent the organizing committee at the UNESCO discussions. '

Actions
1. To invite Professor Earl V Evans of the US Embassy to attend the Committee meetings as an observer.
2. To invite representatives from the organizations listed in minute 8E
3. To invite the Chairmen and Editors-in-Chief to the meeting on 9 February to co-ordinate the memoranda
4. To issue the statement to the Press, scientific organisations etc in accordance with the distribution list in paper SIC/6 (48)
5. To form a small sub-committee to advise on the arrangements for visits and exhibitions.
6. To invite the Royal Institution to make the Lecture Theatre available for the plenary sessions of the Conference.
7. To invite the Lord President of the Council to make rrangements for a Government luncheon to the overseas delegates.
