1. During a general discussion on the functions of the committee within its terms of reference, topicsraised were;
1a. Finance - decided it was necessary to explore how the grants made by the UGC could be best used in the interests of biological research.
1b. Staffing - majority of departments were built up on a minimum staffing requirement, and that the onus of administrative work often interfered with the direction of research
1c. Young research workers - further discussion was necessary to decide the best means of financing young research workers
1d. Aspects of biology to be given greater prominence - in this connection general bacteriology, microbiology, taxonomy and genetics were especially mentioned as aspects of biology calling for greater prominence.
1e. Distribution of teaching - Decided this was a matter demanding the attention of the committee
1f. Supply of technicians - pointed out that in meeting the need for skilled technicians in departments, regard ought to be had to a scheme for their general training.

2. Assistant Secretary was instructed to circulate (for information) with the agenda of the next meeting, copies of the minutes of the meetings of the committees for physics and chemistry.

3. Date of next meeting - 16 March 1944 at 11.00 am
