1. Confirmed minutes of meeting of 29 March 1944

2. Correspondence with the DSIR, ARC, MRC, and UGC reported by Chairman, and the information that the representatives would be Mr E Barnard for DSIR, Mr E H Havelock for ARC, and Professor E D Adrian for MRC. Though in view of the fact Professor Adrian is out of the country the MRS ' had subsequently been asked to nominate another representative. The UGC had stated that it preferred to be represented in an unofficial capacity.'

3. Report submitted on the progress of the questionnaire

4. ' Resolved - that the following recommendations be made;
2a. That consideration be given to the distribution of advanced teaching and research among different universities.
4b. That it is essential to develop opportunities for field research and training in terrestrial ecology in the widest sense. In connection with this the following recommendations were made;-
i. that a research institution for ecological studies, with an adequate staff and equipment, be established, being preferably located at first in a country house with a wide area of surrounding lands
ii. that the facilities of existing research institutions, both pure and applied, including museums and botanic gardens, be developed for the training of selected groups of University students in research in fundamental aspects of biology. This was held to be of benefit not only to the universities but also to the institutes themselves).
iii. that where a department of genetics existed in a university there be attached to it a field station for research and training in plant and animal genetics, at least one member of staff of such situations being permanently attached to the field station. (Courses of study for external students should be given annually at the field station.
iv. that all students of biology receive some training in field work
4c. that , as biological research is greatly hampered by the lack of adequate technical assistance, heads of departments be given, if required, the services of a technical assistant, who should have the status and training of a research assistant
4d. that every permanent member of the academic staff be given the services of a technical assistant, if required
4e. that ordinary laboratory assistants in university departments should be numerically increased and have an improved status
4f. that consideration be given to a scheme for the training of such assistants
4g. that every biological department have available the services of a private secretary
4h. that the maintenance of collections of living fungi, bacteria, algae and protozoa, and of higher animals and plants of known genetic constitution, is regarded of the highest importance

5. Agreed the Assistant Secretary arrange a meeting either on 28 April or 2 May at which the representatives of the DSIR, ARC, and Development Commission and MRC can be present.
