Description | 'Sir, - I have the honour to inform you that your letter marked 747/81 with enclosure from the Admiralty relative to Observations to be taken at the Transit of Venus in 1882 was laid before the Council of the Royal Society at their meeting held on the 20th instant and that the following Resolution was passed (list the resolutions listed in the meeting) It was further understood that as the matter was pressing the Committee might if they thught fit communicate directly with the Treasury.
At the first meeting of the Committee held on the 24th instant it was (among other things) resolved to ask the Council of the Royal Society for leave for the Committee to meet in the apartments of the Society. The Council are not to meet again till February 24th, but my Lords may safely assume that leave will be granted.
The following Resolutions were also passed, and I was directed by the Committee to forward them to my Lords:- Resolved. To ask the Treasury for the services of a competent Secretary at meetings of the Committee and such other times as might be required. Also for power to print minutes of the meetings of the Committee and other necessary papers. '
